I'm trying out
Polywork, which seems to be a less terrible LinkedIn. (Low bar, I know.) It seems to be about selling your skills and tangible things you've done, rather than just what jobs you've worked at.
The problem with the "what jobs you've worked at" model is that it's very hard to get jobs different from the ones you've already done. I've gotten recruiter emails from big tech companies as a result, and I get the impression that, at a glance, I seem like that's what I'm good for.
I'm skeptical that this one web site will change that (and even if they do, every VC-funded company's goal is to be bought), but I gotta try something. If you want to try it, here's a "VIP" (ugh) code: jimkang-pidgeot
It can be used ten times, but I don't think anyone's tripping over themselves to get into it, so it'll probably be good for a long time.
